Effective Partnerships
Human Collaboration: We argue that collaboration is the true competitive advantage for the new era. In light of this, we help clients to improve the effectiveness of internal and external collaborations by developing processes, structures and behaviours most suited to their needs.
|
Our position:
Success of strategic alliances and partnerships largely depends on the ability of people to interact well, create mutual trust, define expectations and rules of the game, and manage the relationship. The contractual process - IP management, scientific and technical due diligence, etc. - are all a given, areas where organisations must have expertise. But things fail more often on the people side than on the technology side. Effective partnerships and alliance management is mainly about relationship management. This is what our programmes and interventions are about. | |
Effective Partnerships improves human interactions to create more efficient and effective strategic alliances, partnerships or external collaborations. Whether the company has a dedicated alliance management programme or not, we provide the consulting support and educational tools needed to improve the way people work together on the ground at three levels: strategy, management and implementation.
The Effective Partnership programme focuses on ensuring alignment of all parties in the partnership at both a strategic and operational level. Our programme focuses on aligning and enabling the parties in the partnership at three levels:
- Sponsor and senior stakeholders
- The interface team (the operational team responsible for the collaboration)
- Individual collaborators, e.g. scientists
The programme offers companies the choice of either the full programme working with new partnerships and focusing on building alignment and capability at all three levels of interaction, or an audit and continuation option for existing partnerships, or an in-depth focus on any of the three levels.
We work with the sponsors and senior stakeholders to:
- Align the vision, outcomes and expectations of all parties
- Establish the boundaries of financial, resource and time commitments
- Position an operational project manager with team optimization, project management and cross-cultural management skills
- Ensure agreement on pre-existing and newly generated intellectual property
- Establish an image for the partnership and develop a communication strategy to the market
- Establish a review, learning and adjustment process
- Develop a mandate for the interface team
We work with the interface team to:
- Build a team with balanced working styles that are aligned with the needs of the program
- Build clearly articulated objectives and a risk management profile, based on team visioning exercises
- Build a commonly understood outcome or "product' of the programme focusing on dimensions such as content, structure, usage and value
- Establish the rules of operation of the programme across project operation, regulatory and document standards, team roles and responsibilities, image projection and communication
We work with the interface team and individual collaborators to optimize their performance through:
- An intensive training programme focused on gaps in interface skills including directive, cross-cultural, remote working, meeting and review skills
- Ongoing coaching to deliver interface skills in a just-in-time manner
- Establishing plans for formal review of vision, objectives, outcomes, risks, and operational processes
- Establishing learning interventions to enable knowledge sharing
